Position of Researcher at the University Institute – Controlled Synthesis and Characterisation of Polymeric Materials for Biomedical Applications

is announcing a selection procedure for one Researcher position focused on Controlled Synthesis and Characterisation of Polymeric Materials for Biomedical Applications.

What the position involves

  • Independent scientific research in the field of synthesis and characterisation of polymeric materials;
  • synthesis of homopolymers and copolymers, measurement and evaluation of their viscoelastic properties, and basic characterisation of prepared materials using gel permeation chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance;
  • use of controlled radical polymerisation techniques and organic synthesis techniques under air- and moisture-free conditions;
  • preparation of scientific publications and presentation of results at professional forums;
  • participation in the preparation and implementation of research projects;
  • cooperation with members of the research team and international partners;
  • participation in collaborative projects with external partners, in particular joint research with Tomas Bata Regional Hospital, a. s. (KNTB), and in the development of a research environment for healthcare and biomedical disciplines;
  • care of assigned laboratory infrastructure, in particular specialised vacuum glassware and a vacuum line, including routine maintenance.

Requirements

  • Completed doctoral studies and a Ph.D. degree, or an equivalent foreign qualification, in chemistry, materials technology or a related field;
  • ability to work independently in biological and chemical laboratories;
  • practical experience in organic synthesis, synthesis under air- and moisture-free conditions, and work in a sterile environment;
  • expert knowledge of controlled radical polymerisation techniques and practical experience in polymerisation and copolymerisation with controlled structure;
  • experience in operating chromatographic instruments and relevant software;
  • experience with software for processing NMR spectra;
  • ability to conduct independent as well as team-based scientific work;
  • ability to prepare professional texts and present results;
  • English language proficiency at least at B2 level; C1 level is an advantage;
  • high moral and civic integrity.

  • Structured CV including information on previous research experience and publication activity;
  • brief description of previous professional, scientific and research activities;
  • list of publications, projects and other relevant outputs;
  • copy of the certificate of completion of doctoral studies and award of a Ph.D. degree, or an equivalent foreign qualification;
  • overview of research experience gained after the award of the doctoral degree;
  • statutory declaration of integrity using the current TBU form; required only from applicants who are not TBU employees;
  • where applicable, a document confirming the required language level. If it is not submitted, the language level may be verified by another appropriate method during the selection procedure, for example by assessment of a professional text in English or by a short online interview.

Job details

Expected start date:               1 November 2026, or by agreement

Working hours:                      Full-time (1.0 FTE)

Employment contract:           Fixed term, until 31 December 2027 at the latest

Probationary period:              4 months
